12th Madurai Film Festival - special features

12th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2010
Special features
1) Retrospective section: Renowned film makers Saba Dewan and Rahul Roy will be felicitated during the festival under the retrospective section. Their best films (5 each) will be screened. They will be present on 7,8,9 December to present their films and take part in the discussion following the screenings.
2) Country Package: short films from first timers of Burundi (Africa) presented by Burundi Film Centre – Canada, curated by Paul Lee, film maker from Canada.
3) Special package of documentaries from South Korea courtesy Magic Lantern Foundation and the Asian Network for Documentary, Pusan International Film Festival.
4) Competition for Tamil films on people’s struggles and human rights for SARAT CHANDRAN MEMORIAL AWARD (cash awards and certificates)
5) Short documentaries produced by the trainees of Video Volunteers.
Apart from the above mentioned 4 sections there will be films from Rest of India and International films as well.

Sarat Chandran Memorial Award for Tamil films!


12th Madurai Film Festival: SARAT CHANDRAN MEMORIAL AWARD COMPETITION

We invite entries from Tamil documentaries and short films produced after 2008 on issues dealing with human rights issues and peoples' struggles.

Documentaries and Short films made about Tamil speaking people all over the world or issues dealing with Tamilnadu can be sent. Films should be originally made in Tamil; they should not be dubbed or subtitled in Tamil from other languages.

Entry fee: Rs.500/- (demand draft taken in the name of R.Amudhan payable at Madurai)
Last date: 20 November 2010

First prize: Rs.10,000/-
Second prize: Rs.5,000/-

Maximum duration: 60 minutes
Category: Short films and documentaries
Format: DVD
Theme: human rights and people's struggles

12th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2010


Dear friends

Greetings from MARUPAKKAM.

We are happy to inform you that we are planning to organise our 12th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2010 on 7 -11 December 2010 at The Madura College, Madurai.

We are organising the festival in association with Media Research Centre, Department of Philosophy, The Madura College, Madurai along with our supporting organisations such as SIRD, EKTA, EVIDENCE, PEAL and IDEAS.

We are planning to screen around 100 short films, documentaries and animation films from within and outside India. It is a non-competitive festival* with no entry fee**.

Following will feature in our festival.

1) Retrospective Section: films by Saba Dewan and Rahul Roy
2) International Section
3) Rest of India
4) Films from Tamilnadu* (competition for Sarat Chandran Memorial Awards)
5) Country package: films from BURUNDI curated by Paul Lee, a film maker from Canada.
6) Under Construction: films distributed by Magic Lantern Foundation, New Delhi

Win prizes upto Rs.15,000/-


Parallel art and literature events:

1) Interaction with a writer every day at 3 p.m.
2) Painting and photo exhibition for 5 days

The festival package will be taken around to many cities, towns and villages of Tamilnadu over a period of six months between January and June 2011.
